[Vegetables, fruits, nuts]Japanese Maitake Mushroom

Takalabo Produce

Product features

This traditional Japanese mushroom, renowned for its rich fragrance, was historically presented to shoguns in the Edo period. Due to its rarity and the difficulty in finding it, it is often referred to as the phantom mushroom.

The name Maitake, meaning "dancing mushroom" in Japanese, comes from an old tale: those who found it would be so delighted that they felt like dancing with joy. This sensory connection between the thrill of discovery and the word "dance" captures the mushroom's unique allure.

We have now made this elusive maitake available as a retort-pouched product with a one-year shelf life, and this product is completely additive-free.

Please note that the maitake should be drained thoroughly in a colander and always heated before use.

Recipe ideas:

* Saute maitake with garlic and use it as a topping for salmon sushi.
Steam maitake with dashi and egg for a savory custard dish.
